Founded in 1933 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Waltz-Holst Blow Pipe Company began as a small, specialized fabricator serving local manufacturers with custom air handling and dust collection systems.
The Story of Waltz-Holst
A Legacy of Quality
The Early Years
1933
During the years of the Great Depression, our founders, Otto Holst and Fredrick C Waltz, recognized the growing need for cleaner, safer industrial workspaces and began crafting hand-built ductwork and exhaust systems for woodshops, furniture plants, and foundries.
1940s–1960s
As industrial demand grew after World War II, Waltz-Holst expanded its capabilities to meet the evolving needs of larger manufacturing operations. The company developed a reputation for reliable craftsmanship, precise sheet metal work, and responsive service, helping Michigan factories modernize their facilities during a period of rapid growth.
1970s–1980s
By this time, Waltz-Holst had become a regional leader in air quality systems, offering more advanced dust collectors, cyclones, and exhaust systems. The company continued to evolve by adding in-house engineering, structural fabrication, and custom-designed solutions that served everything from small workshops to large-scale production lines. This era also marked a deeper commitment to safety and compliance with emerging OSHA and EPA standards.
1990s
Waltz-Holst began taking on larger, more complex projects and was formally incorporated as a Michigan business with expanded registration in neighboring states. The company’s ability to manage full system design, fabrication, and installation set it apart from competitors who outsourced major components. During this time, the DUSTAR Reverse Air Dust Collector became one of its flagship products.
Later 20th Century
Modern Era
2000s–2020s
Waltz-Holst continued to modernize its processes while staying true to its roots. With the integration of CNC fabrication, improved material handling capabilities, and a broader range of components such as scrubbers, airlocks, and pressure blowers, the company stayed ahead of the curve. Clients in the furniture, wood, pharmaceutical, and paper industries turned to Waltz-Holst for durable systems that were made to last.
2023-Present
In 2023, we proudly celebrated 90 years of continuous operation. Still family-owned and operated, Waltz-Holst remains committed to serving the Midwest and beyond with the same values that built our legacy: precision, durability, and personal service.
